Diffey Road in the Mist

9 July 2022
An amazing morning view on Diffey Road.  We came early to watch the sunrise and were surprised by a spectacular display as the mist came into the valley.  With the sun directly behind us we were treated to a bizarre round rainbow.

Helicopter on Diffey Road

17 June 2022
After the mulching we had to get the grass seed onto the land. With one thing and another finally got the helicopter onto Diffey Road on mid-June. Took about two and a half hours to do the whole property.

Snowing in Beechworth

1 June 2022
First day of winter and it snowed in Beechworth. Against the last of the autumn colours, it was just beautiful.

Mulching Diffey Road

3 May 2022
Finally got the mulchers in to get rid of all the feral pine trees and wattle. The mulching machine was pretty amazing, vacuuming up all the trees and spitting them out the back as mulch. Took about five weeks to complete.

Diffey Road Sixteen Months

10 April 2022
We filmed our trip up the driveway when we first arrived on Diffey Road on 14 November 2020. Since then, things have really grown and grown so we took a similar bit of footage a month or so before we were due to get in the mulchers. You can see how much all the feral wattles and pine trees have grown up in the interim sixteen months. And then just after it was mulched. What a difference!

Summer on Diffey Road

December 2021 - January 2022
Spent the summer working on Diffey Road. There sure were a lot of weeds and scotch thistles to pull and wattle, pine and gum to chop down.

Melbourne Cup Day BBQ

2 November 2021
We had our first BBQ on Diffey Road on Melbourne Cup Day. Weather was perfect and we made our BBQ on one of our favourite areas on the whole property – a place we named “Right Bank”. This area was not used for the plantation and still has some very old gum trees, right by the little creek which runs in winter. With some sparkling wine to celebrate, it was a great day.

Then we went for a walk around the property and we saw a dead kangaroo and a goanna.

Moving to Beechworth

14 October 2021
Lockdown was such a draaaaag! We were bored, frustrated and all the things we love to do in Melbourne on hold – again! And we couldn’t get up to see our beloved Diffey Road. So we decided, “to hell with it, let’s just move to Beechworth”. So we did.

Burning Diffey Road

15 May 2021
The logging company who harvested the pine plantation left a lot of trash on the property. Piles and piles of trees they didn't want, branches, stumps etc. We had a big burn.

Seeing Diffey Road at Last!

14 November 2020
We had to wait three months between purchasing our new property and getting to see it. At last, at last, lockdown was over. So off we went.
